At least Sony's taking the semi professional route unlike a lot of other companies. I still don't understand why YouTube still exists... Google bought them and needs to quickly destroy their shitty setup and integrate it into what they already had. Maybe Sony will do something right and allows users to upload higher quality videos... I mean, someone has to compete with Google, right? Microsoft is quickly proving that they can't, so why not Sony? But yeah, you're right, they are doing it wrong. |

their whole pitch is that you can upload HD quality videos, and then DL them to your "TV". Instant flaw being that in order to get them to your TV, you need to perform some kind of magic, undocumented on the site, undocumented full stop. Sony's focus is to combat microsofts silverlight and google. They are too late in the game and have completely ignored the PS3, which is the perfect platform for IPTV. If only they made some kind of Joost clone, for PS3, maybe on entirely the same model, they might be heading in a profitable direction. As far as I can make out, there are 100's of web video services but only youtube works on the PS3, because it's flash 7 not flash 9. youtube gets about 300,000 uploads per day... sony have promised to review each and every video before it goes live. How many humans do you need even if their site becomes 10% as popular as youtube?! |

Microsoft won't have to worry about youtube. Youtube will most likely crumble under the lawuits that they now get daily. It will shut down temporarily and come back years later as a (more)crippled piece of crap. Napster 2.0, mark my words. What is it, 3 new lawsuits in the past few days? |

And napster was small fry comparing to the 100's of thousands of videos added to youtube every day. If one of the lawsuits against google goes through everyone will jump aboard and it will be hell. Even google can't just throw that kind of money around. |

Maybe, and other companies are pursuing the legal/commercial route with apparent success: BBC NEWS | Business | Joost reveals five new investors However I just don't believe that Google are so naive (as perhaps the Napster investment bankers were) about the situation. Sharing video files is now a very accessible activity and I don't think its popularity will dwindle. With Google Video and YouTube, Google seem to be in the best situation to dominate the market, and they don't have a habit of letting things slide. |

The "getting it on your TV" bit, is designed to link up with Sony's latest line of premiere TVs, which have the ability to connect to Sony's online services built-in. I think it is likely that there will be a firmware upgrade for the PS3 at some point to enable access on there... But the PSP I have my doubts about. Joost seems to be doing pretty well with its funding, and has got some good content on the way, which should help it along the road. I wouldnt be surprised if at some point they changed their business model to include subscription based premium content. My signature sucks.
