Meebo

I couldn't believe "meebo" wasn't in any posts when I searched the forum. In any case, it's a great replacement for your always-updating IM client -AND- a way around those workplaces that block IM apps. Well, unless they block meebo.com

There are countless uses for the widget...even to bug others while they try to work: meebo me
[edit]ha ha, the first one came and left...[/edit]

If you haven't found meebo yet (which I doubt), welcome. It's free. If you have, create a dt widget and post it up here.

the name really bothers me.

i'm sick of web 2.0 being cute.

i'm gonna create a revolutionary AJAX-powered Ruby/Rails CMS that will connect people through collaborative filtering and wipe your ass for you at the same time.

i call it:

poopsybeta

Meebo is super-impressive. I haven't used it because I have GAIM, but if I were travelling and away from my computers (and had any real interest in IMing), I'd be all over it.

Agreed. Just not had any real reason to use it.

I just can't bring myself to enter my passwords into a site that isn't the one I generated the password for.

Get over it.

The people behind the scenes at Meebo are great folks. Just have a look around the forum. They take all user feedback seriously, try to implement the most popular requests, and even encourage you to visit them if you're ever in their area. I should be out in Cali sometime in 2007, and I plan to meet them. I can see Meebo getting noticed by some major VC players this year. They just keep making it better.

Perhaps they're just a fun-loving group of folks looking to get purchased by one of the "big boys"? There must be some financial backer(s) behind-the-scenes waiting for that big pay day.

Someone is paying, because they're hiring. Their jobs page is great:

http://blog.meebo.com/?page_id=101

If you're a software-engineer, just answer a few puzzles and you're hired.

The more I read (and now watch) about the company, the more I want to move out west and join them:

meebo is awesome, I've been using it instead of AIM express(btw never use aim express, it's plagued with bugs), because I can't download AIM onto my moms work laptop due to security settings >_<
