akkurat is a really good font.

like a mix of din and helvetica, works really well on headings and long runs of copy

Akkurat looks well nice. Might need to make a purchase.

never.

I met the guy earlier this year, he did a talk on his fonts. Specifically the Guardian font.

He's licensing this year, but I don't expect it to be cheap or on the internet for purchase / download.

I have a quick (sorta on topic) question...

Why are fonts so damn expensive? This is relatively speaking, of course, in comparison to, let's say, software you'd use daily like SmartFTP. I'm not saying it's not a justified cost...just curious to find out why.

A properly crafted font in all it's weights (also remember how many glyphs there are in each one in Opentype) may take a few years by a world-class type-designer.

They deserve the money.

Fair enough...I never have, and I thought I'd ask for posterity. Thanks Tommy and Oli.

No, not that, not yet please Pat! Wait till I'm dead first.
When I was growing up in the 60s, every stinking schoolbook which wanted to be hip and with it used exactly that style on the cover and I never want to see it used anywhere ever again.

Thank you.

2008 doesn't seem to be a very good year so far for handsome new fonts. Are we running out of shapes? Still, it's only November...
