Fontavailability

Help me try and understand, please.
I've been using fonts in my trade for 30 years
and I kinda like them.
I've only gotten into using web design software
and toying with my website for a couple a weeks.

There are dozens of fonts in my drop down box.
There are quite a few listed there but ain't actually there.
I see many well designed fonts on other websites.
Yet there are only a few fonts that are 'websafe'
and if you dump the ugly ones there are even fewer?

I understand but I don't like it or get it.

Anyone out there who appreciates fonts and good design
must surely be pissy about it too.

there are alternatives. such as sifr or plain ifr (image font replacement) techniques, but not viable for larger portions of text.
Or (sigh) full flash websites.

You have to cater for mor tastes (machines) with web design, hence limitations are inherent.

Take it as a challenge if you will

You should get used to the limited palette for body copy now.

Also look up text image replacement and sIFR

Added - emil got there first.

All of which were suggested to him in his first thread on the subject which he clearly didn't like either.

Yes, I know and understand the limitations but I need to vent my frustration for a bit and get over it and move on.

I go down whinging !

I always thought the Interweb was very over-rated.
