Bane of my existence. Didn't there use to be some I Love Helvetica and I hate Helvetica pin badges for this movie? I'd pay good money for an I Hate Helvetica t-shirt. Though its not so true anymore, Gill Sans has become bane of my existence :/ Sigh, terrible corporate font. |

i'd hazard a guess at the fact that some graphic designers overuse til it's death, and always feel the need to preach it against arial. It becomes tedious after a point. |

Aye precisely that. If it wasn't overused - especially in the UK in the last few years I'd have little to nothing against it, its a nice generic sans serif and very versatile for a great range of styles. But then so are an awful lot of other fonts. Diversity is nice, and there's no reason to default to using Helvetica (Neue) all the time, it has its moments, but the fact it has a large family of weights doesn't mean you don't need to use other fonts ever. Not aimed at anyone specifically, just a general shotgun spread in the direction of Helvetica. |

Sometimes, Helvetica just happens to be so well-designed it seems it's always the perfect face for most jobs. Blame it on Max. The untrained designer usually fails to see the subtle differences between similar faces like Akzidenz, Univers, Helios and end up using Helvetica for everything. Even worst is using Helvetica when it shouldn't even be set in Sans Serif. Still it is one of my favourites. |
