Fireworks

How many of you use it on a daily basis? Would you consider it as a better replacemet of PS for vector designs?

I've always installed Fireworks, but never got to use it, really. I used to get annoyed by it's interface, which I found very hard to use. However, I've been playing with it (Fireworks, that is ) and I'm finding it pretty cool now. In fact I'm still grinning, as if I found a new toy.

Probably the next site I'll be doing (a freebie for a friend) I'll do in FW.

What are your opinions on this piece of software?

A few points:
  • Excellent for the mix of vector and raster - not seen it implemented anywhere else like this
  • Memory intensive RAM hog
  • Falls over with some fonts
  • Love the layer/frame play you can develop for anigifs
  • nice Integration with Flash/DW
  • Heinous Javascript output - really bloated (mx)
  • Photoshop has a wider variety of setting on all tools I have used

i use fireworks for slicing html emails and the occasional animated gif, but that's about it.

i think the quality of its gif export is far inferiour to photoshop's.

if you're working in a full-on macromedia environment (coldfusion with sites managed via dreamweaver) then it can really compliment the work process, the ability to reference a source file and open it for editing from the beaver then click the 'update image' button and it saves everything, versions it and updates your site and code with the click of one button. but then again, who's doing that these days anyway?

i've never found it to be 'memory intensive' as mentioned above - i've always found it quick to boot up and doesn't seem to bother anyone else when you've got another 10 apps open the way that the beaver sometimes can.

i could easily live without it, which is, i imagine what all the firworks monkeys will have to do once adobe get their hands on it (or get it off their hands).

I am running Win 98 with 512

I like that the native file format is PNG.

Agreed about the optimisation - PS is better.

The best of Fireworks is clearly going to be integrated into Photoshop following the merger, so those who work in Illustrator and Photoshop are going to find it very powerful.

I use fireworks and find it great for simple vector work, tweaking pics and optimisation. I've never done much print, and have put off photoshop and illustrator so far, but I'm limewiring some total training for illustrator.

I don't see any reason for adobe to incorporate fireworks vector functionality into photoshop when illustrator is the vector powerhouse, it would be as stupid as incorporating fireworks raster support into illustrator when adobe have photoshop. Basically I think it'll be binned, their two flagships render it useless...

Much prefer fireworks for creating web graphics. It's just so much easier than faffing around with photoshop...
