Most people have moved on to bit torrent now anyway, is there even a way to shut it down as no one company 'owns' it.

Yeah, shut down the sites hosting the .torrent files (like what's happening to loads of sites right now .. suprnova.org, lokitorrent, etc)

easy enough to whack up another site though innit, I really dont think they can stop all this lark.
Best way would be to go legal like the music industry - itunes, napster etc and offer movie/ tv programmes for download and provide a decent service at a good price.

aye don't get me wrong, all they can do is inconvenience people really. as for going legal, there's plenty of legal uses for bit-torrent already (mostly software distribution), but i've yet to see anyone offering movies for download or whatever using it - which is a shame really. the bbc were rumoured to be considering offering episodes and radio shows, etc, for download on BT but i've not heard anything more of it

exactly. don't treat the consumer like a villain. they'll only hate you when you email them a reminder to re-new their subscription.
