making fonts

I've made a font but need some kind of programme to turn it into a ttf. I've tried an old programme that turns handwriting into a font but this involves scanning and editing all over again. I have another that makes a font from scratch but as I already have one I don't want to do it all over again.

Does anyone know of something that might help?

Sean

Macromedia Fontographer is an application that would do this job for you! It's an old-ish app with a slightly outdated interface - but its easy to use (maybe because of it's age?)
FontLab (from Pyrus) is another option - haven't tried it but it should be good, they say... relatively new program. v3.1.3 should be the latest version.
good luck!

Fontlab is great though the actual font generation controls are a bit more 'pro-oriented' than I need
(though I'm sure 15 minutes alone with the manual would help me to get my head round which settings I should be adjusting and which ones I don't need to touch.)

It's a good, modern piece of kit to use, whether you're importing outlines made elsewhere or doing it all diretcly in FL.
I think FL has a downloadable demo, so you've nothing to lose by giving it a try out.

Do you know of anything really intuitive? I've got Fontlab4, but I've not seen anything to quickly knock up a font whenever you feel like it.

Verrrrrry verrrrrrrry funny...I was fooled and I'll admit it. I thought it was too good to be true OR was an Easter Egg or something.

Damn!

Thanks for the advice.

The macromedia thing costs a fortune so I'll skip that (I only want to make one font after all).

The Fontlab looks good and I downloaded the demo (v.4.5) but unfortunately the limitations of the demo is that you can only save in one format (not ttf). The full version is also too pricey.

Cheers anyway

surely someone here could make the font for you for fu*k sake!!!!!!!!

you only want one font dont you.

come on must be someone here with fontlab or fontograph.

i would be more than pleased to do it but unfortunately i dont have either packages.

but after downloading fontlab it was a piece of piss to generate a font so it is not going to take anyone that long to do

good luck

Dorian - nice one, cheers mate! There's no big rush (we do things slowly here in Berlin). I have all the letters already but I'll have to do a few extra characters (@, © etc).
What format/size do they need to be? Is this gonna be a lot of work for you or is it just a matter of chucking them in one side and getting a font out the other?

I will need the files to be a vector file format - tell me what you used to create the fonts... really hope not it's bitmaps - that would mean I'll have to vectorise the shapes first correct them and then import them into Fontographer! (zzzZZZzzz)
But if it's all in vector - should be a piece of p*ss! I will also need to know the default spacing (kerning) and line hights that you want... pm me the details/questions if it's easier for you

At the moment it is bitmap, but have no fear it's a simple font that I can recreate as a vector quite easily. But I use Paint Shop Pro which means the file will be .psp, is this OK?

Let me know before I start work on it

Cheers

haven't worked with paintshop files before - but we could try.
Can you export into .ai - .eps - .cdr - or .pdf format? The best thing to do would be if you send me a test file ...and we'll take it from there.
