scribus and inkscape

I have the opportunity to get a graphic design job that I know will be great (lots of creative freedom, good hours, etc.) but they don't use Creative Suite.

Scribus, Inkscape, and GIMP are the only options.

Do you think those would be fairly easy to completely master in about 3 months? (By the way, I use InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator pretty well, so that would give me a jump on it)

If you think it is feasible to become an opensource graphic designer in 3 months, please post any good tutorials/articles on the pertaining apps.

Also, how do they compare to Creative Suite?

Thanks.

personally speaking i wouldnt touch a company that didnt use CS, maybe its just me and my workflow which im used to.

its great that they are using open source etc but come on... they're not a patch on adobe's stuff. they are about ten years behind, i would want to move forwards not back.

how come they dont use CS ?

Avoid! Sounds like you will be jumping through hoops whenever you need something, and probably not getting it.

I'm a fan of open source, but mostly because its usually better than their proprietary equivalents. But definitely not in this case - as a designer this is career suicide for you. How would you move on to another company, or progress using industry standard tools? These guys are just being cheap skates.

I use the GIMP, but that's because I'm not a designer and rarely need to use CS3 to do my job.

Wow.

Open source is all well and good, but when there are vastly superior commercial products available and an employer refuses to put down real money...that doesn't bode well for their business plan.

They're cheapskates. Avoid them.
