Mac OS X 10.5 - screen grabs
Can anyone tell me how to set up a screen grab of a window in Leopard that doesn't copy the hideous drop shadow - when used with the keyboard shortcuts? Definitely a new 'feature' in 10.5 as I've never seen this shit before: ![]() And pointers chaps/chapetts? |

Grab the whole screen with the window in the upper right and then use Automator to crop them all down? Or just set up an Automator script to remove the shadows? Personally I use Snapz for screen images/movies... it's fairly cheap and gives you tons more options! I think the free version of Snapz runs for a limited time if you've only got the one batch of screen grabs to do? |

Thank JM, although I didn't want to fanny around with other software when the OS is (was) quite capable of taking a quick shot of a window or selected area by holding a couple of keys. Leopard comes with 'Grab' which is essentially the same thing but you have to open the app first. I know it's no biggie but having to find and open an application when you could have just pressed a couple of keys is rather annoying, imo. |

I agree. I discovered the shadow thing and thought "are the fucking kidding me". Everything that takes one or two keys in Windows takes two or three keys in OS X. Take a screenshot of the current window... OS X - Shift+Cmd+4 then hit Spacebar (complete with stupid shadow) Windows - Alt+PrtScrn (no shadow) Advantage: Windows. Find good advice in the beginners web design thread.

OK that's cool. Not terribly appropriate for taking single-window screenshots (too much work to be done). But...custom area screenshots... Advantage: OS X. Find good advice in the beginners web design thread.

I must admit that I have always been a Mac fanboy but having serious doubts about the developer's motives for it's operating system and influences from an ex-PC userbase. It's been an unwritten rule for as long as I can remember: If you do design use a Mac. For everything else slum it with a PC. These days there are more developers on Mac than ever - must be the new buggy interface that offers the appeal? Anyhow, back on topic - how do I fix this stupid issue? |

Depends what you're used to. OS X is far more efficient for me, if you want you can use Quicksilver and OS X and use one button combos for everything! (I have a geek friend who does this, stupidly fast, but I've decided it's the same as runners/cyclists who shave their legs.) |
