Illustrator CS "Save As" options no longer...
allow you to save as an 8 or 9 or other version so that I can open a file in Macromedia or Corel Draw. I've searched the help files and can't find the issue addressed. Unfortunately, I created many graphics in CS that I now need for Fireworks and can't get them in. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have the Macromedia MX suite. Thanks. |

More on Illustrator "save as" difficulties
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I need to work with this Illustrator file in Fireworks in a vector format. But, no matter how I try saving or exporting it always comes into Fireworks as a pixel-based file. The non-pdf didn't work. The export as legacy (both .eps and .ai) works fine when I pull it up in 9 -- it's not great from an editing-in-v.9 standpoint, but it's basically workable as an editable vector file. But, when I save in 8 from either CS or 9, so that I can open or import into Fireworks (has to be converted to 8 according to a Fireworks prompt), it always comes into Fireworks in pixel format. However, I've taken a graphic that was created in 9, saved it as an 8, and it opens as a vector file in Fireworks. So I know it can be done. I've tried different combinations of settings, tried fooling the programs, everything I can think of to open an Illustrator CS file in vector format in Fireworks MX. Can you think of anything else? thanks again. |

Creating with Dreamweaver/Fireworks/etc.
When I try to open an Illustrator file, I get an error message that says could not open file, save as Illustrator 8. But, I'm about ready to hang up my hat anyway. I have two books on Studio MX and neither takes me step-by-step through creating basic pages, let alone how to get a site up & running. The books don't explain how any of the programs relate to each other -- they just give me snapshots of various functions, but they don't connect the dots. I should've stuck to Adobe's Go Live. I need to rewrite my sites right away -- can you recommend a method of learning the software rather than reading & hunting & pecking? Here are my websites: www.alfredshaheen.com & www.williamtunberg.com Both are on yahoo and both were written with yahoo's software. I'm self-taught. The store was very complicated to write, with a lot of go-rounds to yahoo's template software to give it the look it has. Now I need to transfer to register.com and have to rewrite both sites from scratch. The books I have are (1) "Macromedia Studio MX 2004" by Green, Chilcott & Flick, and (2) "Studio MX for Dummies". Every time either book tells me to do something, you can't -- when it tells me to go somewhere, the place doesn't exist. I've visited their websites and can't find their tutorial downloads. I've emailed support and haven't received a response. It's a mess! Thanks for any guidance you can give me. |

Importing Adobe Illustrator CS files into Fireworks
From Illustrator CS GO TO FILE > EXPORT > FORMAT > choose ILLUSTRATOR LEGACY .AI > OK Illustrator Legacy Options Panel Pops Up. VERSION > Select Illustrator 8 > OK In Fireworks OPEN. Vector File Options Pops Up. > OK You should now be able to manipulate the paths. |
