E-Commerce software - Any recommendations?
I'm looking to purchase a Shopping Cart package that I can use to create E-Commerce sites for clients. It needs to be secure, reliable, easy to use and update. I also need a package that allows fairly simple theme amendments. Does anyone have any recommendations or advise? |

Personally I use oscommerce.com. Its an open source shopping cart that is very stable and can be integrated into any site. But I would watch magentocommerce.com. Its another open source that looks to have many more functions than oscommerce, personally im lookin forward to this one. |

i've been trying to tout magento for a while, but honestly its looking like its piling up into a giant mess. its system requirements are steep, and its the only php/mysql app that i've had massive issues with even trying to install on my local server. these issues have lingered for months now with no improvement. if you're running wamp/xampp, you have to download a replacement pdo_mysql.dll file from some techno dance site just to get the thing to work, and even then you're presented with a billion pdo dump errors. plus, the thing is slow as hell, has a completely ridiculous learning curve for theming compared to other cms's/e-commerce packages, and just tries to do way too much out of the box. the initial hype on the product was interesting but now meh. |

I've heard good things about Shopify — A shop in minutes, a business for life. , but I've never used it myself. The downside is that it has a monthly fee. However, its supposed to be easily customizable and easy to use. And they have a free trial, so you can test it out. Don't get XCart, no matter what you do. It's awful. |

Understandable, I Personally have not used it yet since its still in beta testing I have not wanted to put it into any site, till they get the kinks out. But your right, that sounds like a lot of wasted time to get it running. |

I don't think its that bad to be honest. The only reason i use it is because other platforms seem to use tables for layout..... if anyone has one that doesn't, let me know |

I was reading on their website that they host the shop for you? Is there any way of downloading it? Or would you just point your domain to the hosted shop? |
