Ironically, it apparently passed the Acid 2 test on the same day Opera filed their complaint to the EU about Microsoft's lack of standards support. I actually think web developers should take the lead on this one, and strictly enforce standards themselves. Cut the quirks and hacks out of sites and force people to upgrade. At some point, someone needs to draw a line in the sand and say, if you're still using IE7 or IE6, you ain't going to be able to use the entire web unless you use a standards compliant browser. Kinda like the switch from Analogue to Digital TV. |

except that idea would never work. designers are at the mercy of clients. the last thing they want to hear is "i am standing up for web standards. that means people using ie6 (aka still a good 1/3 to 1/2 chunk of users) will see a giant mess when they visit your page. mwuahaha!" |

its not going to force people to upgrade. its just going to make people not visit the site. users aren't inclined to think that its an issue on their end. imagine if google stood up and somehow made their main page usable only with standards compliant browsers though. now THAT might actually change something. |

True, but the vast majority of the internet is not work for clients. We can either sit on our hands and moan about having to support IE6 it for ever more, or we can attempt to take a lead and try to change the situation. Take your pick. When I visit a site like stage6.com, I can see a real benefit to installing new software to be able to use it (because it pisses on youtube for quality). We need to make an effort to make the standards compliant sites a more attractive proposition so people will want to upgrade. If we don't do it, who else is going to? |

Hopefully you won't need to handle anything. Realistically if it checks out, and when Firefox goes to 3.0, all 4 main browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera) should produce identical pages with the same code. Feels nice just typing that. |

the big problem is that most of the consumers out there, at least the ones ive talked to, really dislike Vista. they want to stick with XP. And then they won't upgrade to IE7 because they are used to IE6. Microsoft just needs to force everyone to upgrade in the next round of Windows Updates |

yah i still use xp instead of vista. i simply don't have any reason to upgrade to vista at all minus the fact that i would have to get more ram just to run it. |
