Getting/Installing - Leopard?

Well it's Leopard release day, got my free, well (£5.95) upgrade coming but don't know if I will install it until bugs are fixed, on the other hand will I be able to resist?.

Anyone taking the plunge into what is being hailed as the most important mac OS upgrade in the history of man and beast and probably plant life as well.

if you use your computer for work... wait!

usually i install updates on my home mac first.. to learn the new stuff. then once the bugs are squished (usaully in the .2 update) i'm likely to be ready to consider the studio macs.

Myself i can't be arsed to update yet. Might buy it if i am out and about with the boy in the pram at the weekend tho.

WOOOOOO. Well it took a little longer than 30 minutes because I had to do some firmware updates before installing but the install process only took 32 minutes.

Looks awesome thus far. About to toy with spaces... oooo

I'm definitely an uber fan of spaces now. I'm one of those people who always has 16 different windows up so HOORAH for a way to be more organized.

The interface still works the same of course but visually it's an improvement to me.

I've already set up several stacks, 4 spaces, zoomed through the new nice finder, checked out the notes & other new junk in mail, and after I stop fiddling with all this... we'll see if there's any noticeable improvements via apple bootcamp.

I'm in two minds about it. I want the new windows bootcamp drivers, but I'm probably going to hold off for a month or two.

Edited: I hadn't been able to find much in the way of CS3 (or other Adobe advice) however this gives everything you need to know. I may take the plunge after all.

That news story is based on the pdf I posted a couple of comments up. What's a little surprising is that Adobe is essentially abandoning CS2 altogether (as far as Leopard goes). In a nutshell, their report says that if problems occur with your CS2 installation, there's no fix. It's kinda unusual to see a company drop a major product like that when it's only one version before the current one.

Anyway, my wife is away for the weekend, so given that I have a couple of free days I thought I'd take the plunge after all and install Leopard. So far so good. From a design point of view I've had no problems so far with CS3 Web Premium, or MAMP Pro. Either of which would have required a downgrade back to Tiger if they weren't working.

Spaces is looking handy to keep my work and play separate, and Stacks looks like it could be pretty useful as a kind of virtual job bag for current projects. Everything seems to be running pretty quickly. Safari 3 renders pages so quickly it's almost unnerving.

Just about to setup Time Machine on an external drive. It looks reasonably flexible - you can specify folders to exclude so you don't end up wasting 100 gig of backup space on your porn collection (although maybe that's some of your most precious stuff).

So far, so good.

Apple (UK and Ireland) - Mac OS X Leopard - Technology - 64-Bit

Quote:
Leopard is the first mainstream OS to completely and seamlessly support both 64-bit and 32-bit applications on the same platform, making use of all your existing devices. Even major graphical system libraries — including Cocoa, X11 and OpenGL — are available to both 32-bit and 64-bit processes.

eh? I've had Windows XP x64 and Debian x64 for ages now.

...think.. 10.4 (Tiger) is 64bit an all. or at least 'supports 64bit'.

Edit: and 10.3 (Panter) is 32-bit with some basic 64-bit support.
