Hyped on Design
|
Hi Adam c, Thanks for your suggestion. To answer your question, yes I do use Linux and I have looked into the GIMP. I must confess it is a very nice piece of software but it's not what I am used to. It just doesn't work for me plus it only produces RGB files. No CMYK files. This is not good. Any more news concerning Adobe and Linux are welcome! |

Nothing has ever been announced officially regarding Photoshop (which I assume you're after) and Linux. I wouldn't hold your breath for anything in the near future. Maybe next year? Possibly, but probably not. You might want to look at using crossover office or even vmware otherwise you'll be in for a long wait. |

Adobe must have some kind of reason for not releasing its main apps for Linux. I have a sneaking suspicion that they view Linux desktop users as 'cheap' (i.e. open source/free software hippies) and not willing to shell out the kind of cash Adobe want. They had a version of Photoshop running on Irix (a Unix-like Silicon Graphics OS) at least a decade ago -I used to use it. But then if you're willing to spend $20,000 on an entry level workstation, you're probably also willing to pay through the nose for the software. Porting it to Linux would have been a reasonably straightforward procedure. And now CS3 runs on Mac OS X which is essentially a Unix-like OS, so their codebase should be portable enough to run on Linux. |

I wouldn't for one. And I've been a Linux user for over 10 years. Frankly, I don't think Adobe could give two shits about the OS industry as long as people buy their apps. They have a track record of loathing Microsoft, and recently they've hardly been that complimentary about Apple either. |
