btw, as a Mac user I have a fair amount of natural immunity to these virii.
Even so, ow comes I don't even get the virus-carrying emails in the first place?

not sure, I only get them on one email Ive had for donkeys years, Ive been a bit more carefull with my newer ones.

There's also this sneaky one going around. The body of the email can look like it's from your host or a domain you run.
