Something better than FTP?
... so the client says, "I hear that there is something out there that is better than FTP. FTP is old school and this new system is more secure, more reliable, more... I want it on my site!". ... "I want to be able to upload my video edited work in a Flash format and then tell my client to view it, check it out, and let me know what changes he wants so I don't have to meet the suit himself." ... "There must be something out there that would allow upload and download of files that would be secure and allow only our clients and me to see it." Well, in a nutshell that's what he said. Is there in fact some system that you would recommend I incorporate into the website that would allow me to carry this out? Also, is there a better system than FTP? Or was that really only a rumour? Cheers, Hanek |

There's always SSH for uploading. It's much more secure and most of the geeks tend to favour SSH over FTP. |

Thank you all for your comments and advice and I apologize for long delay in replying. (Life can sometimes bring you full stop). It looks like I'll have to tell the client to stick with FTP. I'm not sure if a CMS would allow him to add a password protected page for each page that contains data for different clients to view. Thanks again for your time! |

By "something better than FTP" it's safe to bet he means, "I'm not technically savvy and FTP scares me, please make it like other websites where I hit Browse and find the file and upload it." So, he wants to upload video files or something? That's not hard. If he wants to create Flash videos of them, that's not hard either. (I just learned how to do it and felt like a retard after I asked because it's so simple). Quote:
