data recovery

So, my 'media' drive (160GB SATA) has decided to become a gayer. Basically the drive is still visible but Windows claims it isn't formatted. I think either the partition table or MBR has been corrupted. I've tried running chkdsk which usually fails after a good few hours.

Booted into knoppix but as it's NTFS it wasn't too keen on it.

Was having a look at Stellar Phoenix, the demo version of which certainly found all my files okay, but I've no idea if it'll actually recover them.

Any tips, help, welcome.

Some of the people over at Something Awful run a small wiki-ish thing:

May be helpful.

Will check out some of the software listed there, thanks PGO.

Still interested to hear from anyone that's used anything firsthand
