mac software I won't be able to live without
your suggestions please gentlemen. in particular I'd be interested in development software - IDE, FTP, easiest way to install PHP, MySQL, Appache? MAMP? Subversion, rsync, database browser, ssh client, any old shit I'd find useful or currently use on my PC. also productivity stuff - best email client, calendar, todo list app, feed reader, anything really. plus anything else. |

MAMP is a good starting point but if you end up doing any amount of real dev work on it you'll probably want to start using individual packages. I'll try and look out some decent links later on for individual packages and build instructions. Fugu http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu/ is a good and free sftp/scp app but Transmit http://www.panic.com/transmit/ is probably better if you dont mind paying for it cocoamysql http://www.theonline.org/cocoamysql/ is a very good interface into mysql run and get quicksilver as well cos its very very awesome http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/ search about a bit to find out what it does and watch some of the screencasts to get why you should use it. iterm http://iterm.sourceforge.net/ is a nice replacement for the built in terminal.app which is tabbed amongst other niceties. You wont need a specific ssh client as osx has command line ssh by default. |

Textmate is great. Mac mail works fine for me. SSH, SFTP etc are built in, just open a terminal window. If you find a decent database browser, let me know. Not managed to try it yet, but http://locomotive.raaum.org/ looks good for ruby/rails. |
