IE7 Knowledge

So, let's start posting everything we can about IE7. Gotta get ready as it's supposedly "feature complete". Apparently, there's still float clearing bugs. But most all the bugs present in IE6 are fixed. Supposedly.

So, here goes.

Regarding clearing fixes working across browsers, including IE7:

Regarding IE7 standalone installations:

already had a client on the blower about IE7. Bit bloody early if you ask me

I used son of suckerfish dropdowns on a site - the dropdowns overlayed a wee flash movie. Not anymore apprantly and the dropdowns down disappear once you mouse off them - which is nice

You hadn't seen that yet, bro? That's surprising as hell considering you're well...you. You don't seem to miss much. Where have you been?

Sorry, back on topic...

Actually, I've been intentionally ignoring IE7 as much as possible. Why? Because I didn't want to jump to any conclusions. But now that it's supposedly feature complete, I'm all over it.

As Eric Meyer said:

Quote:
It was publicly stated that the current build of the IE7 beta available from Microsoft is rendering-behavior complete. In other words, the only changes to IE7 from now until it goes final will be fixes to security holes, crash bugs, and browser chrome/UI stuff. Whatever its CSS support does or doesn’t do, that’s how the final version is expected to behave.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.

I’ll take a few minutes on that last point. A little while ago, I said that designers should remain calm and not hack their sites to fix them in the IE7 beta because it was a moving target. That is no longer the case. It’s now time to start testing sites in the IE7 beta and identifying any layout problems that may occur. (And there will be problems. No browser is perfect.)
