Macromedia Studio MX 2004

Macromedia just announced the latest version of Dreamweaver / Flash / Fireworks / etc.

Seems like plenty of new features - particularly CSS handling in Dreamweaver, and Flash is now split into 2 versions - standard and Pro.

Whaddayareckontothat?

think the pro is aimed at people creating RIAs and using video.

the standard is aimed at people who want 'skip intros' and dancing kittens.

"...the range includes a new application, Flash Professional that, 'enables developers to organise and build applications using a forms-based metaphor as an alternative to traditional timeline development.' Not for the faint-hearted, this software is aimed at developers familiar with programming tools such as Visual Basic."

That Joel bloke has done kitten work for mtv before doing this crusha advert. He's raking it in off the back of those crazy cats.

just been looking at some of the features that are coming in the whole range of mx and i can see 2 things that would be cool (double byte language character support in dm, fw) but if you have a copy of:

photoshop
illustrator
topstyle
emeditor
ws_ftp_pro
flash

why bother??

dream beaver rocks. site management, templates & css support are all good - although i do recomment topstyle pro for editing css externally.

ws-ftp-pro is also excellent but if you have different people working on a server then its nice to have a check in/check out option somewhere.

[beard]homesite is my favourite program in the world. [/beard]

oh, and in the beaver, right click an image, edit with fireworks, click the done button, everything (source file and image in site) updates. i love the DONE button.

I'll be getting a sneak peek into the whole suite on Sept. 3rd cuz the local Flash User's Group here is going to be holding a small event in coordination with Macromedia to showcase MX 2004 to the Macromedia User's Groups

I'll agree with that...check in/check out is the whole reason I can work from anywhere and am office free!

My favorite place, sunny day, shady tree, outside...wireless LAN. Lovely.

never really had to use check in /out feature - seems a little overkill in my books

i work as one / two man team and not a group of developers.
