1) I think it's just for IT professionals and whatnot - official beta testers.

you can sign up to the microsoft beta program somewhere.. beta.microsoft.com or similar. doesn't mean you'll get a copy. i signed up for it and all I got was a lousy msn messenger mobile beta test. with which, i've not bothered.
