No images.

There was a post on another forum a while back asking about sites with just XHTML/CSS and no images whatsoever.

I didn't have time to even think about it the time but yesterday I was bored and started thinking about it and came up with something that doesn't have a single image.

It's not all that tbh and it's also not practical as it only works in FireFox and if you don't have the Trebuchet MS font it will also probably break, but all the same I offer this as an example/foundation of what can be achieved with XHTML/CSS without the use of images.

There's nothing wrong with images (background or otherwise) as long as you use them sensibly, but it's a nice technical example.

The circles/face is a bit misleading though as I doubt you'd ever actually use a technique like that in a real situation. That said, css3 has some inbuilt functions which could come close to emulating it - border-radius and so on - so this sort of thing could be possible in a cleaner way in the (hopefully) near future

Totally agree about the use of images mate, I'd never make a site without them for anything other than an example of what can be done

Uh oh!

Nice job seen.to. I was actually thinking about something just like this today. I've been toying with the idea of putting together a submission for the Zen Garden - practice styling other peoples' markup is always good! While thinking of possible themes, I considered doing an all-CSS design.

Anyway, how'd you make the layered blue circles? The smiley eyes seem to be periods or something - is it the same with other circles, except you used z-index and huge font sizes?

Too lazy to look at source.

I've been designing Web sites professionally since 1997 but was guilty of 'HTML Terrorism' up until 2004 when I joined another design forum and started hearing about the wonders of CSS positioning. Until then everything I'd done had used tables galore and some of my older stuff was even guilty of frame abuse *shocked*.
