Comments appreciated

Feedback of any sort about my site in terms of design, layout, colors, etc would be appreciated. I'm more interested in the negative feedback, but positive feedback never hurt either .

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm thinking of toning that down a little bit. Someone on my forum told me the site resembles one of those parked domain sites with all the ads, and I can't say I can disagree with that. The worst part is, is that the site has the same amount of advertisements as it did in its previous version, but after making the site have a 2 column layout instead of 3, it seems like there are a lot more. Is it the colors that makes the ads pop out too much, or just the sheer amount of them? (There is a personal bias in my viewpoint making it difficult to make this call)

Thanks.

And other than that, how are the colors working together, and how is the layout? I also feel everything is a bit cramped. Any tips on improving that?

id move the google ads to the bottom for a start, that area should have your logo/info - its generally the first place a user looks

Yes, very busy. Once I figured out what was content and what was advertising, I thought it was utilitarian/functional - which is fine. However, there doesn't seem to be an hierarchy of importance between the different sections - the little biographical blip is given as much importance as the main articles.

Change emphasis and shuffle the ads around a bit - people really hate obtrusive ads.

Lose the ads and start again. Couldn't bring myself to look at it for more than a few seconds, sorry.

been staring at it for a couple of minutes,
still don't know what it's about...
way too many colors, flashes, borders, imho...
(you have a black solid border and an orange dashed
one...)

Keep it simple, especially as you want the user to be
reading your articles, without giving him a headache

yeh everyone's said what I would already, too many colours, "New Content / Popular Content" looks like an ad (imo), the Versehost ad is bigger than your ste logo, which is lost against the hard area below it.

your code is VERY sloppy! I saved out your index page to check the size, its 57kb. Using standards you could probably get it down to around 20kb if not less. Loose all the bullshit presentational tags and use CSS for more then just your link colors and boarders.
