feedback please

Hi,

I'm putting this website together for a friend: http://www.hartepr.com/

It's a work in progress at the moment and needs more work but I'd be interested to hear what people think.

Cheers

Looks relatively nice and functional.

You have too many colours and the sky looks awful.

what would you change about the sky? Do you think it would be a better idea to put a gradient or something in there instead?

As for the colours, I basically took the colours blue and green and used different hue's of each one plus some grey. is that too much?

I would get rid of the sky as it's been so over used. Maybe use the curve of the green as a sort of die cut and keep that as the top of the page.

If you are going to use a grey gradient for the navigation and directly below introduce a blue gradient then it just doesnt look good.

just limit yourself to a palette of colours.

Sorry....not sure what you mean by 'die cut'. I'm a bit rusty on the design end of things at the moment cos I;ve been working in programming for the last few years.

Do you think it might be better to remove the "news" gradient altogether and just use a different bg colour (maybe a light grey) ?

Do you see it like that because of the name or because of the way it appears on the site?

I can't use a different name for it

Die Cut is simply a non-regular paper shape that is cut using special guides after it has been printed.

I think

Your nav buttons, the edges of the glow you have on them are too jagged. Use XHTML and do them in text with a gradient background instead of images (Faster download, better search engine rankings)

Nice and clean though.

it looks like css, but it's table-tastic, the header image looks like it's bieng re-sized in the browser window causing a bit of image degradation

I'll double check the imnage size in the header.

I haven't made the big move from table-tasticness to CSS utopia just yet and I have to have this site turned round pretty quickly. I'll CSS-ify it when I get time.....

I made a bit of a change to the header (added a graphic linking to a popup) I'll rework the sky image as well.

Do you think the site is too text heavy? I need to add some gfx through the content to make it look a bit more attractive and break it up some.

Nope.

Don't just add images for the sake of adding them. If they don't serve a contextual or justifiable presentational purpose, they probably don't belong there.

Well, the person who the site is for wants to target UK tourist authorities etc. with regard to getting Irish people interested in travelling to the UK. I was thinking of a few tourist/travel related images on some of the pages

That might be OK - just don't overdo it.
