New website mockup - what do you think?

Hello everyone,

I have designed a website mock up in photoshop and I was hoping to get some constructive criticism before turning it into an actual website. Please let me know what you think. What would you change?

Also, this isn't a real restaurant... its completely fictitious (I'm just trying to build my portfolio).

Would be nice if some of the elements lined up a bit better.

Is that one of those "Victorian" textures in the background?

I guess technically its called a "grunge" texture. I wanted to have an interesting background, but not overdo it. Do you mean the content areas lining up better? like the navigation, image, main content, etc?

The grunge is overpowering the content a little too much, I'd fade it out a bit more. Lose the bevel and dropshadow on the green box, it looks shite.

Well you need to make sure you are designing on a grid. Are you using one at the moment?

If not, I would check out 960 Grid System

Edit: And yeah, the texture does seem to be effecting the legibility of the logo at the moment.

And to add to that, it may be the kerning or you just forgot to press the space bar, but the "&" is very close to the "G" in the logo

Funny how as it's a 'lady' you're all being nice.
A bloke posted that and it'll be "that's design? What a shed of shit!" etc.
