OK so I lied...

Hi all,

Thanks for everyone's comments about my site http://www.nomoredesign.co.uk.

It turns out that I was remarkably remiss in not testing this site on other machines properly and I apologise to anyone whose machine I killed with this site.

However, I have taken on board as many comments as I could and I have redesigned the site which can be seen at http://www.nomoredesign.co.uk.

Thanks again for your help.

I liked the nav and liked the logo a lot. I liked the animations too, they are fast and aren't annoying like some flash stuff we happen to find usually. I dislike the header and the footer backgrounds. I don't think this wooden color/pattern match the rest of the page. I would like to see a plain solid color on them, or maybe a small vectorial pattern, rather them a photographic one. But I'm just a begginer and maybe more skilled people will give you better advice. I've tested your site in MSIE 5.5 which I suppose you already know how it looks like.

It looks really good now. Nice colours.
(and yeah, I do like the photo backdrop, however I'm Not A Designer too)
It's still slow on my oldest machine (P3 450MHz), but at least it's viewable.

A few points here:
- In 1024x768 the curved titles in e.g. the work section are poorly readable (too small)
- the stripey background makes all the other texts very annoying to read. Maybe you can insert a semi-transparent white layer in between to tone it down. Although that would slow it down again probably.
- I -hate- pages that are off-center.

If you don't mind my asking, what spec PC is it that you use at work?

It slows down quite a bit on my G3 Mac at home, but so does everything else!

I can hardly read the nav on 1600x1200 32bit. Plus I find myself having to turn my head more than just to the side to read the nav at a squint.

Animations are super smooth at this end.

Nice idea, although I dont like that the horizontal curves do not match the header. Looses its flow and my eyes just focus on teh fact that it doesnt look "normal" so I ended up not looking so much at teh content but more so the colours.

the header graphic isnt nice, and the text is still hard to read over the stripes. A big improvement over the last though

i see where you're going with this design.

The header and the footer can be better.

i think the main problem is the image that you are masking... try a different picture of wood grain. Perhaps an image from further away? Perhaps a lighter wood grain? And perhaps an image of better quality?
