magazine ads.
Hi Not sure if this is the right forum, but ..... the company I work for have some magazine ads going to print today for magazines including 'web pages made easy', 'web designer', .NET', 'practical web pages'. Here are the ads in their current form.... we have the rest of the day to make amends on them, so any general comments / opinions will be well received and helpful. You will notice that we've taken a slightly non-conventional approach, rather than simply listing specifications etc, do you think this approach will work better? Thanks Advert 1 - Full page advert 1 (will potentially be rotated with other full page ad, between magazines) Advert 2 - Full page advert 2 (will potentially be rotated with other full page ad, between magazines) Advert 3 - Quarter page advert |

They're exactly the same as the ads we (or I) put out for our group. Slightly un-conventional, just had a complaint from the a local authority in the London area about the soft porn content of one ad. The client asked for smut, they got it. I really like them they get the message across on all of them, although #3 is a bit text over load. Don't forget 1/4 page is still quite a big space to play with. Does that text stand out enough when printed? Jase

Cool, do you have them as PDF's or anything? I'd be interested in a little peek! The text (quart' page) ad does seem ok printed, although I suppose i'll have to see it in the magazine habitat before judging properly! |

Probably telling you how to suck eggs here, but the basics of ads can be summed by this: Attraction Interest Desire Action The creative approach is ok and certianly an antidote to most of the bland advertising you generally see for web/hosting/access services. However, without being able to put my finger on it, something does seem to be missing. The typography seems a bit flat and I'm not sure about that highlighted text thing ... it's a little overused (though I have been guilty of using it myself for a couple of magazine covers and several flyers). If you're gonna use it all needs to be a lot bolder. Don't mean to have a pop, but I'm just thinking that there's something missing here. Can send you the stuff I did if you're interested. Here's some of my flyer/ad type stuff. I've knocked it together quickly so I don't have to mail it out anymore. www.clearinteractive.co.uk/flyers/ It weighs in at 464k and I can't be arsed to optimise it. Be nice to know what you all think (don't mean to hijak your thread Aaron). The redux thing was published in Computer Arts a long while back as part of one of their features, just in case you recognise it & think...now where did he rip that off from???
