That's true, I feel the magnifying glass has been done even more than the glasses and I'd like to emphasize the geek side of things rather than the finder.

As for the kerning, the "f" merges with the "i" when they're next to each other, regardless of the spacing.

The font is "Constantia."

Here's how it looks is I seperate them.

You can turn ligatures off in AI and you won't have to worry about it. And yes, magnifying glasses have been done before, just like everything else in the world. But that's where creativity comes into play.

Been used a lot but if you take a decent slant on it, could look good.

I take it you had no idea what I meant by ligature then.

The glasses and font don't really work together. The glasses could be more chunky. I really liked Hurr Kum's idea - but I know how you feel, ie. being concerned about using someone else's idea...

Suppose it depends what sort of definition he's using for geek though, if as he said it's more computer illiterate people looking for geeks to help them out, it's not going to be rocket science they're looking for.

Though I dunno how many geeks are going to want to be stereotyped as bespectacled and uncool and then offer their help to anyone.

For computers you could just do some sort of design involving binary code, which is in very geeky territory!

Those braces are incredible.

"Why do you wear those incredible rainbow suspenders?"
"I could tell you, but I'd rather show you. Through interpretive dance..."

Just watch The Big Bang Theory (if you can tolerate it for long enough). That's full of geek clichés.

Another idea that just sprung to mind is turning the Es' or the G into power on symbols

An other idea is something like {geek finder}, </geekfinder>

What about a mock search bar with 'geekfinder' typed into it, and a mouse over the button at the end?

Very simple, mind. Otherwise it wouldn't be a logo.

I can't mock anything up as I can't upload here.

edit: and i can't be arsed

I had a similar idea but only geek was in the search field and finder was the button. I decided not to pursue it as I'd like to have a seach bar in the in the header.

It was just an idea, I didn't give it a lot of thought tbh. I guess the extra slash may make it look cooler to non coders.

I thought it was so cool, I almost fell off my perch.

Stop fucking around - type the words GEEK FINDER in a decent-looking font and forget the stereotypes.
