nervously asking for critique

At least you're sensible enough to know what to expect here - that'll get a lot of claws retracted. As for the site - i think you know that the white doesn't fit in with the pink. Looks shoddy. The shop is much bigger than the other content which again is inconsistent. The flash 'intro' is of no use whatsoever. Get rid. Frames - Noooooooooooo! The 'Ezili' font is a bit 'adams family' - dont like it. Just starters. |

the frames and the fact that I'm still searching for some actually text, as apposed to images of text, put me off straight away. frames aside, the usability is quite poor. What's the difference between the collection and the shop? Don't expect me to understand. I went in the collection, saw a dress I liked (hmmm), clicked on it, got a bigger image but nothing else - where's the description, price, sizes available, all that stuff? I then went in the shop to see if I could find it, but didn't. I might add more in the morning. I'm drunk and going to bed. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

a few notes about the client's wishes
the client wanted both the "collection" and "shop" sections, although i warned against it. i agree that is confusing. i also agree that the images of text is annoying...again, the client's wishes. the frames: more feedback please! i thought this was an alright use, since the navigation was simple enough, but i'm up for making a case against them in almost any design, so yes, let's hear more on that...i know a lot of people HATE frames in ALL CASES. i actually think they have their merits in the case of small sites with less than 10 pages of simple navigation (2 tiers...home and the rest). interested in more opinions on that... what would be a suggestion in place of the white? thanks to everyone for taking the time! melissa |

• I didnt like the fact that the dress thumbnails in the collection looked badly scaled. • I agree that the simple white flash window looked as though it was totally seperated from the background. The site has some Ivy/Roses used in the corners of some pages why not try and break up the gap between the flash window and background. Similar to this - http://www.zelda.com/gcn/index.jsp • I wasnt too keen on the cartoony looking models, would of preferred to see some professional style model skecthes (MO) • There is such a lack of information regarding the clothing on the site • Im not liking the font either as I kept reading stuff like "Beauty and all things girly" as "Beadty add and all thidgs gtrlgl" seriously I really did, I had to sit right up and get a closer look (which took EFFORT (fs)) |

LIKE: the sounds, and nav overall the cartoony models, although they don't fit with the rest of the layout. the stripey backdrop DON'T LIKE: mixed fonts unreadable font (except for nav) black on pink collection/shop difference frames when not necessary -> you could just have put the nav on top of the scrollable page, because it's not that tall. People use the "back" button more often than you think anyway... Overall, it doesn't look "together". Too many styles, too many frills. Think of line widths, fonts, colo(u)rs, decorations, etc. It does look friendly, though - something which is very important for an online shop. -= In theory, theory should work in practice. =-

I quite like it... Sure the text is not easy to read*; however, I did not try - I just wanted to look at the merchanidse and shop (which is a good thing). I did not like the fact that the "Collection" shows more products than I can buy - why, I really wanted that dress... Also, prices? Please... Finally... availablility... I had to click on BUY to find that the products was not available. Fine if you're offering the option to order and wait for it to come in stock but otherwise pointless. * Important text and stuff that you think other people will want to actually read should be more legible. For example - the news section. That is, as opposed to the window dressing text. |
