Feedback wanted and needed

http://www.iewd.cjb.net

Greetings. As I am not an English speaker, I will try to be simple to avoid errors:

First I'd like to say that I am NOT a webdesigner, but I intend to be someday in the future. This site is only a self-guided study (as you'll notice, I don't have a portfolio).

I would be grateful if you checked the site out, and gave me any kind of honest feedback. You don't need to be merciful just because I am a begginer, any comments and critics concerning design (all aspects), coding, usability, accessability, readability and other habilities are welcome.

If you have some useful infomation to give, but you can only think of harsh words to express it, don't be afraid to use them: it takes too much to hurt my feelings.

Thank you very much (and sorry if I made many English mistakes).

The three content boxes should be alinged correctly in a grid layout -

-------- ------------------
------------------

and move the menu to the top (horizontal) loose the grid from the background and the 'ususal' tab from the top... adding some
clean photos to the design would help too. The colors are too bright looks like the site is intended for kids at the moment...

Your code looks pretty good. It shouldn't take too much effort to move from HTML to XHTML and learn a bit more CSS.
Keep chipping away at that, but spend most of your time (say.. 99%) looking at the design - layouts as said above, graphics and type.
As it is, it's ugly.

Thank you both for the answers.

I think you probably haven't seen the "Conceitual" section, or you'd probably give more advice.

"The three content boxes should be alinged correctly in a grid layout "

A friend told me that before and I did not believe it. Now I wil try to work it out.

"and move the menu to the top (horizontal)"

It was my original attempt, but I've had so much trouble with the layers in other browsers (like Mozilla, Konqueror, Epiphany) that I chose the vertical one. I'll try to work that out too, it's probably CSS isn't it?

"loose the grid from the background and the 'ususal' tab from the top..."

Do you think they are no good at all? Couldn't I try to make a better grid, or a grid would always be bad in this situation?

"The colors are too bright looks like the site is intended for kids at the moment"

You mean, only the top banner or the headers included?

"move from HTML to XHTML and learn a bit more CSS."

In fact, that's my purpose.

"layouts as said above, graphics and type."

I haven't figured what's the problem with the type, could you tell me?

Thank you very much.

While trying to follow adras' suggestion about photos, I've done two tests:

http://www.idest.pop.com.br/tst2.png

They were intended to replace the top banner, that was judged kindergarten style.

Hope you have more good suggestions for me.

Thank you very much.
