well, im pleased
here's the original: http://www.gelform.com the copy is awful but i was pleased with the design. but i've since moved to middle america and it's to racey for the locals im afraid. so yesterday i did this: http://statecollege.gelform.com and im pleased. it looks simpler and less scarey while still being a little design-y. corey |

The header image is blurry - might want to sharpen it up a bit. I'm not keen on the dropdown i have to say. Looks a bit boring. That background image in the main body of the site screws the text up a bit. Looks messy. I'm not too keen on pop-ups really. That's just an opinion thing but i'd prefer to see your work within your site, and open new windows to the actual finished product. I think it's okay though. Pretty good in fact. |

it's a... strawberry leaf? both designs very cramped... are you [still] designing for 800x600? [ the logo is "rather large". dropdown menu looks slightly lost hanging there on it's own in the top right. Same could be said about the menu at the bottom. maybe you should try to block in the different fields? ie - menu would be in one "block" (-of colour). dropdown in another... the dark green stripe at the top: I'd expect the menu buttons to be there - not at the bottom... sorry to say it - but not much of an improvement imo. in fact. the first design is better balanced (visually). (still not too keen on it though) ...

thanks for the comments
all good things to think about. i am designing for 600x800 cos i still think a public site should be. the top is blurry. i wanted it "soft" but i guess it doesn't translate. other people, and i, have also asked "why?" about the leaf. i say "cos i wanted something nice." the best answer i got from a friend was, "and everyone likes nature." the thing about the popups is that i can actually show a full image. otherwise it has to fit within, say, 500 pixels wide and then it's hard to see. maybe the thumbs open a mid-sized version in the same window and then there's an option for the pop-up. i've never really seen a portfolio site that i thought functioned well. any suggestions? yre right about the drop down. i'll let people figure it out instead of giving them everything. thanks, corey |

Why do you hide the thumbnails? e.g. click on albums which brings up three text links which then bring up the thumbnails... Just put them all on the same albums page. And I'm guessing they are on the right in that tiny column by accident? I'd say make them a bit larger too. I'd also suggest losing the statecollege.gelform.com and go back to www.gelform.com I like the color scheme and although the leaf seems meaningless I like the look of it there... just try and give it a reason like, ''Growing with your company'', ''Turn a new leaf'', ''Breathe - Oxygen - Life'', ''Breathe - Create - Live'', ''We Grow Web Sites'' Actually my slogans there are a bit pants so maybe not, yeah I know, ''Leaf it out'' you're thinking. TeeShirts is T-Shirts btw. I like the look overall and think you are well on the way |
