Masthead Mishapp!
Hi Guys, Yet another office issue. I've be working on a redesign for our magazine for a while now but we are having trouble agreeing on a final masthead. Sales have got involved and are worried that the work 'Focus' is more predominant than the company name 'DatacenterDynamics'. If sales get there way it will be called 'DatacenterDynamics Magazine' which doesn't exactly roll off the tounge. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

they need to make up their god damn minds either they want to go with focus, or that other name Focus is obviously the better choice, and is of more importance visually than datacenterdynamics, and since when does Sales know anything about design. They're more concerned about hustling the company name, not the actual magazine name. they need to get their priorities straight and they need to take a course or two on print design before their opinion starts to matter. A magazine is no different from a regular candy bar. you go into the store to buy a Mr. Big, you don't go into a store to by a Cadbury chocolate bar, sure, cadbury has their name on every one of its products, but a product needs a name, and the name is more important than who makes it. |

i would completely loose dynamic data off the top of focus and add it to a strap line just above the pic saying something like "A Dynamic Data Publication" then make focus 20% bigger and move it to bleed off the top right corner. also bleed the image from the left and right margin. ...and tell sales they are stupid.. as FOCUS is the brand of the Mag which needs to be punchy and memorable. also i would kern the O and the C in a little so they touch. |
