Website for my dad's business (Critique needed)

I have created a website for my dad's business (still need to get content/ideas from him), but I am looking for feedback on the design.

I feel it is just too white. Any ideas how to make it better looking?

It kind of lacks character, the grey is bad. And the logo is fuzzy.

And why'd you blur out the contact info?

I blurred out the contact information so no one can spam my dad's phone number or e-mail. (Just to be safe)

I agree with your assessment on lacking character, do you have any ideas on how to fix this?

Dont use gradient backgrounds, adjust your navigation bar and text to be a bit smaller, get help on colors.

colours and layout are awful, I'm guessing you have no formal design training - you need to look around some of the css galleries, read up on layout, IA and grid structure

Ignore the don't use gradient backgrounds, you can do but you have to be very picky with them! Don't have it change between two completely different colours, instead create a subtle change between the same colour.

I agree with this completely. If you would like to use a red background and a gradient, try changing from a dark to light red or vice versa!

The header really needs to be scrapped IMHO and completely re-done.

Looking over galleries such as ccsdrive.com, cssimpress.com, cssmania.com, mostinspired.com etc... would be a good place to find more design inspiration.
