Looks a bit dull for a comedy evening advertisement. Maybe I'm wrong, but the kerning in "Comedy" looks wrong and doesn't match the kerning used in "Evening" or vice-versa.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

There are strict brand requirements so it has to be mono (and serious!!), however fun the event may be.

I'm open to any suggestions on making the type more exciting, what do you suggest?

Unfortunately, the strict brand requirements make it look like an Emo-Spoken-Poem evening.

My soul feels empty and worthless just looking at it

looks like a "shouldve used a condom" ad. too serious.

jazz up type, play with direction instead of strict horizontal. monochrome can be fun. can you use other fonts? sizes? might break up the text heaviness a bit.

i googled some examples - they don't scream brilliant design, but they looks less funeral-esque and might give you some ideas:
