nous vous workshop

just after our final project last year Nous Vous hosted a 2 day workshop in our studio. they wanted everyone to 'have fun and create', so we just made a huge wall collage out of any materials we wanted. the outcome was this

Nous Vous Workshop : ANDY

i think it turned out pretty well

Dont drop your style cos of some gaylord tutor

Its good to have a definable style in fact I think its a major factor in having and identity as a designer.

Look at dali, mondrian and pollock

they didn't get where they are by jumping about and not having a definable style

yeah i know exactly what you mean, but i'm in a 'comfort zone' supposedly - which i kind of understand. i can't keep on getting rubbish grades either, i scraped a pass this year.
i'm gonna do half-tutor pleasing and half-portfolio work from now on.

I really respect designers or agencies that can do their own initianiated work but can alsso apply the same sensibilites to corporate clients.

I don't like this type of design if it becomes too introspective, its good to see it spread across a wider market.

Theres a company called north, they crop up in creative review alot. Thier skill is not just in their own projects but being able to apply it to whole corporate identity programs for big multi naionals

I like fun stuff like this when it has a viable, billable end product.

In the end. you are on a graphic design course and the tutors will likely mark you within that context and constraint.

I did fine art.. on a course with a licence to fuck things up I still didn't really fit in. My work was pushing towards pop culture and was a bit funny (funny ha ha). Which wasn't what was liked by the institution at the time to say the least. Big deal at the time.. doesn't mean fuck all now to be honest.

You are very right to split your work between the tutor pleasers and personal work. Dance for them monkey... DANCE.
