There is a design mag in Australia that runs a comp like this:

Everyone that enters submits a image of their choice, once everyone has entered. You copy all the images and make a design out of it , winner has the best composition.

Just a thought

Seems a bit over the top compared to grids. So ill say renaissance art. or an art movement i.e. cubism

edit: man having a indecisive day. Digital cubism. there done.
