3d Art and Desing Portolio Critique

Hi guys,
this is the first release of my new portfolio site. By all means please tell me what you like and don’t like.

The Art and Design Joel R Freeman

I have one more year of design school left and I still don’t know what I want to focus in (animation, 3d modeling, web design, graphic design, flash coding and animation). If anyone has a suggestion for that too I would love to hear it!

Thank You
-joel

Some nice 3D stuff in there CGzero. By the looks of things, you not only excel in 3D, it's what you prefer to do (they go hand-in-hand). I'd say stick to your guns and during your last year of schooling, even on your own as a side project, create a 3D short film, and enter in some festivals. A guy I went to college with did that and it landed him a job at EA making video games! Keep it up.

As far as your portfolio goes, it's looking good. Lots of centered text I don't care for, makes nothing line up. It's very usable though, you're on your way.

some strong 3D animations and modeling, moreso than your web design skills. i agree with the above comment.
your portfolio is good, but a bit cluttered. could be simplified.

Awesome, thank you guys this is exactly the advice im looking for!

Soup of the Day: Thank you Soup, that is the best advice anyone has ever given me and you are right I have a few refined short film ideas I have always wanted to takle, might be fun to start there. Thank you again for your kind works.

Noah : Thanx noah, that's a good idea. I will think about how to tighten it up and figure out what to remove.

love the 3D work on there, some great stuff, and i think it compliments the pieces that carry your sketches with them.

i'd agree with Soup's comment in terms of 3D is definately your forté, and i would continue to develop your skills even further in that field, also like the suggestion of entering some festivals with your work, would go down a treat

I like the abstract work you have as the main image, unfortunately you portfolio is not as strong. If I were you (speaking from a 3d and web background) only show your strongest bits of work.

In your case that would be your new stuff. The character work isn't very strong and weighs down the good stuff. My advice would be to remove 90% of the portfolio and concentrate on filling it with more abstract and architectural works while practicing your character work behind closed doors.

Thank you guys for your kind words.

i3Design - Thanks man, I'll have to start building on adv animation and see if I can come up with a doable project, of course I will post on the forums as soon as I do

hawken - That's good advice, 90% is quite a bit but yeah I know I still have a lot of work to go. I have one more year of school left and rather then adding the collection I will slowly remove and replace things. I was thinking about remastering some of the simpler character stuff, but yeah I will cut things.

Is there anything on the Design Section that is really bad and Glaring?

Thanks Guys, keep it up if ya can
