redesigning of existing website

My website nullkroner.no (Norwegian) has generated a good amount of traffic the last month. To be able to create new and better services, I have decided to redesign the hole website. I want a simple but professional looking design. So guys, what do you think about this one? The logo is just temporary.

Hard to say without seeing how the content is going to look, but its a nice framework.
Im going to go out on a limb and say that logg ut means log out.

/doesnt speak norwegian

That's right! Now you know at least two Norwegian words. I give you another one: log in = logg inn. Quite simple, isn't it?

So, on topic: Is the framework a "simple but professional looking design"? What about the colors? And is the contrasts in the menu OK?

Like this? The menu is now tab-based, and the gradient background color is darker.

Try break free from what you see everywhere around you. And also, designing the look of the site in terms of its UI is the easiest part. Focus on the content area, which is often the hardest part to do effectively.

Hm.. It's hard to "brake free" as you call it, without make it too much difficult for the user to navigate. Is it the colors, the tabs or the "centered content area" that is what you see everywhere around?

The content is already safe in my database, just waiting for some new clothes (design). So in this case, I already have the content. But maybe I misunderstood your comment?

Heya, in terms of the menu, it simply looks like a preset templated standard issue format, or something just taken from a tutorial, like this one:

Professional Dark Web Button // Adobe Photoshop Free Tutorials at Photoshoplovr.com

It's used too much, apple use it, microsoft use it, and very very many designed sites over the past two years have begun to use it. Breaking free doesn't usually result in a loss of usability, keeping it clean and simple helps on that front.

Colourwise, try to add more colour to it, finding tints of one colour can seem a bit bland. It looks a bit washed as it is.

As for the content, it's brilliant you have it ready; you know what you need to put on there then. I was however referring to the design aspect of how you will put it within your designed frame. Keeping it spaced and clean is difficult, and can destroy any pretty surrounding.

Yeh, you get a Vista-like feeling from the tabs. And that's not a good feeling... I take the content part of the design when the framework are finished.

Here you have three different tabs (included the old Vista-style one). Which one do you like? Or don't you like any of them? I think the Vista-styled one is the prettiest, but I have to get used to new tabs. If you have some inspiration tabs, just give it to me!

When the tabs are finished, I will create a HTML-page and add my content. Then you can give me some feedback on the typography, headers, spaces, etc.

Here you are: A screenshot of the site with the old design (old.png) and the new design (new.png). This is not the main page. It's a list of links. What do you think?

It needs tons more white space. And some sort of heading would be nice. The tabs are the best out of the lot you've shown..

Between each post, or between each line in the link descriptions?

What about creating a sidebar like the one in the old design?

Here's a new try: more white spaces and a sidebar. What do you think?

Looks better with the extra space - but I was actually talking about the left and the right hand margins. Reducing the line width will make reading much easier.

I was thinking along the lines of large heading that said 'Links' at the top of the page. It just looks like something is missing when you start straight out with the list of links.

Is the sidebar going to present on all the tabbed pages? If so it should be located outside the main content section (in my opinion anyway).

Is there an english version of the site? It would help us all greatly if you posted it in english, its hard to know what the headings mean otherwise. eg. tegnforklaring???

That is a clean design. I am assuming that the white space (green on edges) means that this site will be centered in the browser. I like how it has moved from the original thumbnail.

My main critique is your logo and how it is not really presented. You might consider adding a drop shadow, or move it over slightly and up to stop it from being distracted by the tabs.
