new portfolio
hi guys, please give me honest critique on my new portfolio design www . renaldolee . com. Also where do you most of you get your freelance gigs..on or offline? I really want to increase my client base now (especially as portfolio is finally done) so any advice to marketing strats (or 'what works for you') would be most appreciated, sincere thanx, renaldo |

Renaldo Lee Edmondson All seems of fair enough. But found nothing I liked. I found the creative very hakneyed for my taste. taking just a few examples - stock shot image on the contact us page made me squirm in my seat. And the photoshoppy cinema seats... done well enough but look dated to my eye. Also the icons on the homepage are very inconsistent in style.. makes things look like they have been thrown together after a quick istockphoto trawl. haha (in joke) "Stevie B's Gym and Martial Arts Academy" anti social marketing

A fair criticsm mr do gooder...and some holds true, especially the homepage links part....i guess i let frustration and time get the better of me and rushed it a little! (I knew i shudda just stuck to making my own 'post its' lol!) Nevertheless I think you're a little on the extreme side with the 'squirming in your seat' part...it's really not THAT bad, just down to taste....GRAPHIC DESIGNERS (SIGH!) Also what do you mean the seats 'look dated'...is there something a little more web 2.0'ish type seats lol...i'm surprised communicating your message is such a weak point for you considering your apart of a 'do gooder' advertising firm! Please don't talk in riddles, make suggestions, try being a decent prick, rather than just a prick! "haha maybe you should come down to stevie b's gym someday, will teach you a thing or two about another kind of art ha ha" thanx for the crtique tho, renaldo Last edited by d.e.e.p : 01-06-2008 at 09:07. |

I'm a big honest prick. Yup. It's not that bad... doesn't make it good. That's why I said 'All seems of fair enough' rather than 'it's all crap'. my point on that stock shot - is that you are following a well worn rut using stock images like that. Which make things feel lazy/dated. but shure.. its not as bad a concept as this: ![]() or these: ![]() ![]() anti social marketing

Oh aye the seats.. it's just the overall style (and to extent concept) that is boring to me. it's a taste thing. Looking back a second time I am less bothered. I find self promotion is a bastard to get right. If the site works hard for you - helping you bring in paying business... Then you have got it bang on right. Each to their own and all that. it'd be bugger all use to you if i just said it was 'nice'. oh by the by, the scaling goes a bit funny on my 24" monitor - the bg image duplicates. anti social marketing
