Logo Tweaking Critique

Hey everyone,

Haven't been on here in a long time but wondering if you have any thoughts on the attached logo.

The logo isn't a new design, but it has undergone some various tweaking by several designers over the past few years that was poorly documented and now we (myself and the company) are trying to get it all straightened out (as there are various versions of the logo that are being circulated between marketing, vendors, etc.). I've done my best to listen to all the stakeholders to hear their concerns about the logo, as well as fix things that I noticed but I'm looking for anyone to point out things you hate, or things you have issues with and that could be corrected moving forward. (i.e. I need more sets of designer eyes on the logo). I'm by no means a typographer (which is where a lot of the issues are occurring) and I'm open to any and all thoughts.

I'm not looking to get feedback on the concept - the general idea of the logo is already set in stone and has been in use for over 25 years, so it's the letterforms, kerning, etc. that needs feedback.

Also, the type for "Discount" is based off of Crillee but was re-drawn to create a less harsh and more personable feel. No one is really sure who did the re-drawing but it seems to be a hit with all the stakeholders versus placing "Discount" in straight Crillee.

Thanks tons!

-Kyle

P.S. I've attached the logo as both a vectored PDF as well as JPG..... PDF if you want to zoom and get the gritty details, JPG if you just want to preview in your browser...

The Canadian leaf will be impossible to make out at smaller sizes, for example on a business card. I think the lettering and concept is solid overall. Here's what I would tweak:

* Reduce the size of the registered trademark logo
* Does the green need to span out as far as it does? It makes the logo a lot longer than it needs to be imo

kerning is fine - i agree about size of maple leaf and reproducing at small size. My only query is whether the double stripe behind the S is obvious enough that its a dollar? The lines are quite close to the edge of the S.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

- Agree with the Maple Leaf... tried to enlarge it a bit.. but otherwise they want to stick with it. I made an alternate version that doesn't include the leaf but rather the full lowercase "i"
- Reduced the trademark symbol - good call, thanks!
- As for the S being a clear dollar sign, I think it is fairly clear... something to ponder though...

Thanks again!
