Do you think I have potential?
Hi Here is the link to my website: The Official And Personal Site Of Susanna Cole King If you don't feel like going to the portfolio on my site, I'll make it easy for you, and upload and give you direct links: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/97/pslayoutdd14ez0.png http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/121/pslayout18zv2.png http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/7...lioshowfc0.png http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/3...ioshow2tv3.png http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3373/portfolio5il6.png http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4248/2layoutik0.png http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/5...tfolio6ls0.png http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2669/card1hz1.png Thanks in advance for any feedback, I appreciate it! |

P.S. No spamming here, my dears!
By the way, I thought I should add though I am new here, I did not just come here and post 15 posts to be able to post links and have people check out my site. I’m no spammer and never have been the type! Also if I WERE a spammer I would have… 1. Posted the minimum 15 posts in a hurry and then quickly made this topic… but I didn’t. 2. Posted replies like “Nice job”, but instead I do my usual analyzing and thinking, before posting often near paragraph length feedback. (You get what you give, and I enjoy hearing more than “Great!” or similar, so I give more than that too). 3. Said something more like, “CHECK OUT MY SITE PLEASE!!!!” (is that obnoxious or what?) and then just posted the link. 4. Posted this topic and never bothered to post again… but you should see my around. I’m here to be a part of this community, not spam! Etc…. I see you members do not take kindly to spammers (and why should you? Don’t blame you!) so I just wanted to make sure people didn’t assume and clutter this thread with spammer bashing. |

haha I wouldn't worry. You've definitely got potential yeah, stick at it! Some really nice stuff on your site, and an interesting concept. I've just finished my first year doing graphic arts and design at uni, did a foundation course at art college before that, I'd recommend it - it's great to have a year to immerse yourself in art/design. |

You have a lot of potential there. Keep at it. I love the style and colours of the home page. Absolutely my cup of retro tea. As for uni I would definitely recommend starting with a foundation art course, rather than pigeon-holing yourself too early into a specific discipline. For now though, you should steal yourself some copies of Photoshop and Illustrator and broaden your skillset. Look for some local bands and offer your services as a designer/illustrator/photographer too, to get some fun experience. Good luck and stick at it. |

Yes, you have potential. Nothing wrong with being self-taught - a large proportion of us on here are, myself included. Your coding techniques need work but I like some of your designs. Keep at it and good luck. |

Thanks so much for the feedback so far guys! And ah, yes, I know my coding is rather a mess. I should have specified since I'm looking more to specialize in graphics, and not so much web design (though working my coding wouldn't hurt and I plan to), I'm looking more for just critique on my graphics. |

You're fine. Your site seems to be down, but I took a look at the images. You'll have no problem getting into an art school and succeeding as a graphic design major. If you're going to college, make sure you go to a reputable one. There are a lot of shitty art schools out there. |

I don't like the word potential, as I think that you can pretty much train anyone to be a great designer, they might not have a unique style but that's a different story. I think your stuff is alright, it has a very clear style throughout most of your work. Even though i personaly despise the whole "collage type imagery" that's just me being picky with what i like. Either way I know many in the unis i've been in who had a much less impressive portfolio when they applied and got in. When you apply for unis they really don't care too much about your skills, they only want to see that you have ideas, and i think you display that. The only thing I would advice you to heavily consider if you're going to apply to an art/design college is to do some trials with different styles so you get a more full array rather than having something more of a 1 style exhibition. ![]() |

You definitely have potential. I like alot of your ideas. I agree with some of the others, though, that you should experiment with a few more styles and ideas in order to broaden your portfolio. There's some very nice work there though; I especially like your typography. Good job and keep at it. |

Hey Susanna. You definitely have potential. From the works you posted, you come across to me as an energetic and adventurous future young designer. If you have the time and money to go to an art/design school, go for it. It's where you can pick up the tricks and learn the ropes. It's always good to have guidance. Just a piece of advice. Design is ultimately about function and functional-form, not form alone. When art is used in design, it has to become functional-form else it would be unnecessary. |
