If you're not a spammer then all is forgiven, I guess we started on the wrong foot.

Constructive crit on your site – I'd look again at the general layout, particularly the navigation as that looks kinda weird, although maybe it would look better in the centre as it should be – I'm on mac/firefox.

On that note, it's not usually a good sign if a site is failing in Firefox as that is a good browser, the normal method is to get your site working in a compliant browser (like FF), then do hacks/fixes for IE etc if needed.

Look at the typefaces you've used etc, if the 'pix and mix' part at the top is the logo then you should also make it a link to the homepage as this is standard practice.

The You Suck At Photoshop videos aren't on my site, click on the link below (for the first one out of ten so far), I find them amusing at least, they are on their way to cult status:

On the about / portfolio page you've got something called 'mixed meat navigation' where you are using box images as your navigation, but they are not obvious as to what they are.

Also 'This website is best viewed on a 1280 x 1024 screen setting'... doesn't matter what size the screen is, your site is a big black box. Your background is a 900 x 900 image, so why 1280 x 1024? Days of saying 'Best viewed in blah' are over and done with.

You've got a long road ahead of you, but it can be very exciting. Keep it up, don't let us jaded professionals get you down.

Hiya cjgraphix

thanks for your message, i know i can't just jump in to web design as its gonna take years to learn everything so i'm just taking small steps and learning as i go and offering customers the skills i've already learnt at good prices.

I didn't realise you shouldn't use images as links, i'll look in to that and sort it, as for the navigation i thought it would be ok with the images linking the pages down the left hand side and on the footer as text as well .. i will look in to this too.

I have deliberately made the images on the portfolio not obvious that there buttons at the moment as i still need to write the text descriptions and add more work but when its completed i will make sure people know you can click on them.

I wrote about the screen setting as when i view the website on my laptop it cuts some of the text off and moves everything around a bit, i thought this was because my laptop only displays up to 1088 by 612 pixels and my main computer is set to display at 1280 by 1024 .. if this isn't the case can you tell me why my laptop does this as i have no idea!!

I have got a long road ahead of me whick looks like its gonna be kinda bumpy most of the way but i'm traveling down it with a big smile on my face and the willingness to learn whatever i can however i can, i just wish i started learning it years ago instead of being stuck in a stuffy graphics office!!

anyway thanks a lot for your comments, there very much appriciated

No im deffinatly not a spammer so lets start on the right foot!!
I agree the website does look wrong in firefox and only displays correctly in IE7, i'm gonna have a go at building the navigation on the main page using divs and css as its in a table at the moment, hopefully that will sort it, if not i'll be taking it to my technical guy who will be able to sort it with hacks or fixes, I only know a couple myself at the moment so have more learning to do.
I will have a look at the typefaces again, when i started it i thought verdana would be a good one to use but i'll have a rethink.
Thanks for telling me about linking the logo to the homepage i haden't thought of that and change it when i get a chance.

Just watched the video, its very good .. reminds me of myself .. hehe
i'll have to look out for the others.

To be honest, it looks a little like something out of a time warp. I can't really put my finger on why, but, I suspect, the use of icons for navigation, the poor quality of some of the images, the overuse of simple animations and the lack of text all contribute to it. (Oh, and the text helpfully saying 'Click icons
to turn page').

I suspect that the white surrounding the main bit of the site drains it a bit. The flower on the background is kind of nice, but the rest of the background seems irrelevant, or worse, like an image of the website being sucked down the drain. The best bit of the site is the picture of yourself, but even that is suffering from html image scaling.

If you want to stop the background image staying where it is when you scroll, you need to remove "background-attachment: fixed" from the style sheet.

I really like it for a start - i've made a few changes to it for you to look at: what about something like this?

Black background all round, spacing sorted out, header removed and changed a little bit?

Also - the girl with the red hair is nice

God I live this forum.

heheh - refreshing...

Ill tell you what - if you put your opinions like that on anotherforum.co.uk you would get hostile treatment. It's a lot more politically correct than on here. Maybe thats why i'm always getting into trouble on there. Anyone else a member on both?

Sorry to digress a little. In terms of spam though, there is less name dropping on here than on some sites.

Site looks a lot better than the first incarnation pixie. Well done!

Refreshing to hear your honest opinions.

Paul.

Well, I thought this site was for constructive criticism ? Not just a playground for people who want to slag one and others work off. Obviously she has but effort and time into this website and why? To be called a spammer? In my opinion if your going to say something as vague as 'this site sucks' then at least have the decency to say why - by all means express how you feel about the website but don't just be generally vile!!
