Portfolio redesign...don't ya love 'em ;)

Firstly hello all I read these forums a lot, but usually post my crappy comments on DO instead, but thought I'd branch out and make some new friends! (that sounded gay I know )

Anyway, I'm redesigning my portfolio site (again) to try and use XHTML and css seeing they seems a little slow to adopt it at work, and thought I'd post it here for crits and bit of help.

The address is www.kustard.com

It seems to work ok in opera etc. (haven`t tested on Mac though) One problem I have is that none of my bg colors or images are showing in ie5. I dont know if this is because i`m using the background shorthand property though..can anyone help?

eg.

Quote:
background: #FFF url(../images/misc/background.gif) repeat bottom right;

Anyway, it's quite simple, 'cos I don't want to update it and if you want a laugh, have a look at the previous versions on the portfolio page (Swish owns!)

Comment appreciated

Alex

All the colours and bg images seem to be appearing ok* for me and I can't see anything in the markup/css that might cause problems.

* All looks dandy in Safari, but the right column (home page) is dropping below the bottom of the left column in MSIE5/Mac.
The r/h column is positioned correctly in the portfolio section.

like it.
just one thing: I would get rid of the "trendy" elements - 45 deg lines and the pretty wallpaper
or leave at least one of them out. a slight style confusion imho...

Thanks for the quick replies all. I've changed that link now too, oops

As for the site becoming a blog.....I'd rather blend my own head It'll stay like that now probably for 6months without an update, until I decide to redsign it again

I agree with the 'trendy' elements though Dorian, and i`ll have a think about adding something a bit less cliched :p

There's a slight gap below the flash header (see attachment below).

Apart from that it all looks ok.

All the bg images are showing for me - you don't need "repeat" in your declaration btw as this is default anyway.

welcome to DT mate, a couple of comments:
The colour scheme is nice,
I agree with the cliche comments,
The pixel font under your logo sticks out; Id lose that,
Overal though nice work.

Thanks again.
One question then, any ideas how to remove that small green bar under the flash animation? I noticed it was there too, but couldn`t get rid of it. The flash anim is the same height as the div, and I've tried floating it left too, and it still won't get rid of it....and ideas?

Also, on the subject of flash. Is there a simply way to randomise the photo displayed behind the header 'swipe'? I guess it can't be that hard?

Cheers

Does the object tag come with some default padding or margin? Try
Code:
object { margin: 0; padding: 0; }

Or maybe
Code:
object { display: block; }

No gap in firebird - is it only in IE?

If styling the object doesn't work (as above) - try taking out the whitespace in your code. IE is far crapper for this than any other browser.

yeah, I hate whitespace

I'll try that when I get home and see if it works. Cheers
