checklists site - appealing to general audience

Hey guys,

I'm working to redesign Checklists.com.

The purpose of the site is to help people "live better and longer" by giving them tips in various areas and times of life. There's a trove of great content, but the original design is from 2000, and it's just too complicated and makes it hard to find information.

Here's one of my mockups that the site's owner seems to like:

This particular mockup is designed for a 800x600 resolution screen. The colors are also slightly off.

I think it still needs a bit of polish, but I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to improve the design.

Its wierd because it gives off a "Web 2.Oh" feel but theres no gradients.

The header font looks too "rounded" and the yellow box is massive, could do with making it a bit smaller and do the same with the input field.

Thanks I might eventually add some (very) slight gradients, but for now I'm keeping it simple.

I know what you mean, the yellow box should be smaller, I just need to figure out what to do in with the resulting whitespace. As for the header font, I'll see if I can find something better, but the owner is pretty set on that font (or similar).

P.S. Nice home page

wheedwacker: I appreciate your comments - I know that this mockup is far from perfect. Do you have any specific suggestions? Or are there too many problems to list? Thanks.

Brown: thanks. Now that I look back, I can see that I may have gotten a bit carried away while working on this, forgetting to kiss (keep it simple stupid) for such an early mockup.
