Ok Im Back
I took everybody's advice and scraped the starfox / tron /3d animation from the 70's that was an embarassment to the Universe and everything that is good. So here is your chance to kill my new design. I have followed your advice and have scraped the flash, used tables no css. Tell me what you think Last edited by Nooberia : 26-06-2007 at 10:22. |

Thanks Trying to keep it simple so even dumb people can navigate. I've been told that simple sells. Simple is easy and simple is known to work. Last edited by Nooberia : 17-06-2007 at 02:53. |

Hehe this actually reminds me of my first proper attempt at web design in like 2000-2001 or something 1) What's the name mean? (the small copyright text looks like it reads VPoop at first glance... consistent capitalisation throughout?) 2) Are you really plural? 3) Several logos for yourself, confusing. 4) Huge work display area on every page, which knocks down the text people might actually want to read... Keep the big images for a portfolio page. 5) Ehm well it doesn't drive me screaming from the site, but it's not inspiring - there's simple and elegant and minimal - and there's bland and rough unfortunately this is more the latter. 6) Black backgrounds - just no unless you're absolutely confident you can pull it off. |

i personally like this site and think it looks way up to date! Do Good Advertising. The ethical environmentally friendly advertising agency and i love the one page website forever scrolling and annoying the viewer solix / portfolio of Joost Baptist - (xhtml css) website, banner, graphic, brochure, logo, corporate identity, business card now watch the rude replys fly back. |

Well it doesn't look remotely upto date, and simple doesn't sell, effective communication and ease of navigation sells, which can either be simple or not. Anything which is bothersome to the viewer is a negative and your site has several. Your style doesn't come across as a refined minimal design, and the fact it makes the body of the text so low down on pages where I'm not trying to see your work is a serious issue. Also simple/minimalist would mean having no superfluous graphics which the bevelled edge goes against, and the completely pointless bubble in the top left... it's designed like your buttons and yet ... is not a button and cannot be clicked. The navigation being at the bottom is also an issue for ease of use, especially on some pages where it is completely knocked off the viewable screen area until you scroll down. If you don't want useful C&C then why even post it. Solix's is very easy to navigate, is clean and simple, everything yours fails at really. And it has not much more scrolling than yours, and yet is much less annoying. |

Well said, Maerk. Quote:

You'd think he wouldn't bother replying if that were the case. But what he wanted was to be congratulated, and though its not the nightmare it was before (which he defended aggressively to say the least last time), it still has a long long way to go. |

because I understand what you mean about the buttons relocating and I do see now that it can be annoying. But the overall style I think is good. The look is clean and sleek. It displays what I do and it is not all flashy. It does not have a huge intro. It does not have annoying sounds. I am showcasing my products and the job is done. I will work on moving the buttons, I think I will place them directly under the slideshow. Im also adding a flash version of the same site. It will give the user a choice of HTML or FLASH. With the button at the top, I will update it to give the user the ability to change the color of the background to White. sort of a Lighter vs Darker option. Im trying to showcase my work on each page. Bad Idea? So what do you suggest I put on the other pages? Leave the slideshow only for the portfolio? Change the entire design? New Concept? Im all about Constructive Critics. So define constructive again. To rebuild or build I belive. So when you tell somebody that the navigation sucks, or it is outdated or any destructive statement, it must follow with a constructive to enable the CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISISM. That would mean, hey your navigation kinda sucks, why dont you try moving them up and stay stationary for the user. This is constructive critisism. That is all. Thank you MAER, you are being honest and bringing valid points and good things for me to ponder on. Last edited by Nooberia : 18-06-2007 at 12:37. |
