I'd really appreciate some critique on this site

Hi,

The site I'm talking about is at http://www.chakandbex.demon.co.uk. It's supposed to showcase my portfolio work as I'm currently looking for a new job. At the moment I work in-house in a department of one (!) so any feedback, positive or negative, will be most gratefully received.

Cheers,

Amit.

Quite a nice idea that - trying to be classy.

- The dress code bit / browser requirements shouldn't really be there.
- Some of the text inside the books is too small (on this screen anyway - 1280x1024)
- Pagecurls look metallic and like bad gifs

Cheers Stickman,

I know what you mean about the page curls - they're made up from an animated GIF, but i've had to reduce the quality publishing from Flash to keep the file size down. I'm looking to see whether there's a better way of producing them.

I'll revisit that text as well. Serifs and screens don't mix too well I guess. When you say 'trying to be classy', has it actually succeeded in being so?

Hey Brown,

I made up a series of these page curls in Freehand using blends. Obviously blends being made up of many vectors would bloat the file, so I converted them into a series of GIFs instead. Is there a better way of doing this?

i don't believe that importing animated gifs into flash is going to bring the size of the file down.

or, i don't belive that they'll bloat the file size so much that that this becomes an option.

in my experience that's not always the case, but merely a rule of thumb

I was trying to grab the page curls and turn the pages manually at first...like I've seen on other sites.

The classy thing did make me smile though.

I don't like the way the background greys out when you select a book..looks a bit like something has gone wrong somehow.
there must be a more visually appealing way of doing this without having a big ugly grey/black coverup on everything.

and when you actually get to see a section everything is tiny, without much info supplied. Ithink the novelty of having the book thing has obscured your work.

Anybody come across a source file for those page turn thingies (I've seen it everywhere lately).

I've got a client who said they'd like something similar and I'm not sure where to start with it.
