some of my sound design for an experimental film.

I have just finished some sound design for an experimental short film about teenage suicide. The film was directed by Kana Morita.

Here are some production methods.

- recorded sounds onto a mobilephone and played the them back into a Shure SM57 microphone via the speakerphone.
- used ableton live to generally mangle sounds.
- recorded a double bass and the made it virtually unrecognizable.
- Composed the entire un-organic score using a minimoog.

Bliss

Have a look and be warned some of the scenes are a little graphic. This documentary was based on a real case-study of teenage suicide.

I enjoyed this experimental documentary about suicide. There is a dissociative effect between imagery and audio. This creates an unsettling mood for the piece that works well with the subject matter. It's depressing, but what would one expect - it's about suicide. Nice work.

Why is that when you call a suicide help line, they try you talk you out of suiciding? What the world needs is a decent suicide help line giving advice on how to succeed painlessly.

Thanks for the comments. Though I wasn't involved in the filming/ editing, only sound, I know quite a lot about this short. Its a pretty depressing piece I know....

Thanks, thats the kind of mood i went for. Suicide is a tricky topic to portray. , especially without becoming clice or unrespectful.

You would be surprised that this kind of information is only a few clicks away on the internet. There are forums detail methods and there are those giving advice. In this short the protagonist searches forums for methods and gets them.
