Flip Stewart

I'd like to keep an open white background, other than that, steer me towards something you'd enjoy seeing. Thanks in advance.

Use some more color, gradients and/or effects, because it's really gray and boring atm..

Sorry but it’s extremely boring and I hate how small the content area is. I have seen some pretty amazing looking blogs which really show off someone’s design skills but this doesn’t.

The colours are muted and so limp. You have grid issues, your logo looks out of place. The menu is weird and the "Welcome." looks like it needs more anti-aliasing done to it.

There's no reason to apologize when you're right mate. I'll give it another go.

i would align the search box part inline with the pages, categories, archives line.
bit of padding on the bottom would be nice so the pics at the bottom anit touching the bottom

Thanks for the feedback, I just took care of both of those issues... anything else?

It's not too bad. Needs an orange footer with rounded edges IMO. As for hiding link text by using the exact same formatting as standard text... schoolboy error.

Links in posts should appear differently... either way, I'll change the color. Thanks!

I like the header, but the grey middle section where the content is is very plain and boring in my oppinion. It shows you have spent time on the background and header, and looks like you have given up on the body.

Get some blending options on the middle section and use an image as a background image within that box to make it 'pop' out more.

Also, a footer is needed, maybe just a small one, but one is needed.

And also, you dont have a back to home page button, if something is clicked or searched, and want to go back, they cant go directly there they would have to use the back button.

But the general design of it looks good, just needs 'tweaking'

and maybe align the logo to the left? It looks lost in the centre?

Not nit picking mate, i think it has good potential, but constructive criticism is always best to get it 100%

Footer, header, and navigation have been added, link colors changes, banner modified, etc.

What next?

Looks disjointed. Alignment, padding and margins are all a bit skew.

If it's a blog you shouldn't you be more concerned about the content...

The meaning of life was likely written down many years ago but poorly presented, and therefore ignored and eventually forgotten.

Kidding of course... the content is coming... I'm working on a brush set to post on there, etc. I just want to be presentable.

Oh, and I think I JUST fixed what you meant by disjointed... let me know if you still have a beef with it.

Mine and your site are totally different. I use a white background, which looks a lot better than an-almost-dark gray background, which sucks because it's gray.
Same for the menu, background and header.

Btw, my website is based on simplicity, yours not. My website is not to show what I can do, but to show what simplicity can do. Your website is made (I guess) to look good, inviting, you know.. but it doesn't do the trick with gray colors. Go for some real blue, with this orange in your avater, and use a white/lighter background for your content

I could list and list and list the sites that prove that comment wrong, but I'm going to try to pull something constructive out of what you said instead of telling you that you're colorblind... oops.

Never mind, I'll do another color scheme that is exactly what you're saying as soon as I wake up... I just hope you're not wasting my time.

Seriously, thanks for taking to time to share your opinion.

Pip, you need to learn to take critisism better. Solix is quite right in what he says.

The color scheme on your site (in it's latest incarnation) is pretty dull and the grey background is definitely a factor in that.

I quite agree with Solix on the simplicity thing. You have to be good to make a simple design work without it being boring. What you are doing is concentrating on the effects but neglecting the core of the design. Turd polishing basically.
