Upleft - portfolio redesign

Hi there, I don't know if anyone remembers my site from before but it had started to look a bit behind the times so I've redesigned it. This screenshot is also a link so get clicking. Oh and if you're on IE7 I haven't been able to test fully so is it alright?

IE users get a different set of nav buttons because I'm lazy at pngfixes

Slate the hell out of it please, then I can progress and improve it, ta.

Text in the header is pixelised, kinda everything is. I like the menu more in IE.. But I like the rest!

And I've tested it in different versions of IE:
IE5: left-aligned, only PHOTO-menubutton appears, the rest is kinda ok
IE5.5: Same as IE5, but all menu-items appear now
IE6: you know..
IE7: same as IE6

fantastic!

however i think the header needs work, the only part of the site that seems incomplete

personally, i dont like the boxed links in the navigation,

but other then that, the light grunge look is awesome!

it's pixelated because it's system text, not an image.

maybe you should make the main nav font smaller, because CONTACT is a bit too crunched.

Thanks for that, I'll have to have a think about IE5.5, oh and text anti-aliasing is your friend!

I'll change that I agree, I just didn't want the others looking too small. I've had quite a few comments about not liking the circle > box hover change, I just went for originality but I might just use a pink circular hover instead. It's all going to change, thanks for the comments...keep them coming

only one thing really
- i would use an image for the upleft web design logo bit at top, looks really pixelated.

other than that the site looks pretty neat

I really don't care it's a system font, it's pixelated and it just should not be..

I've talked to a few people who prefered my original website; I've mocked up a match up of the two styles; Upleft ¬ Tom Brooks Web Design based in Leeds, UK - do you think that's a step backwards or a step forwards? thanks..

Forwards, definitly! Get sharper text in the header, and maybe put a 2px slighlty darker red border down the top bar.. or just something like that, keep playing with it

That "Contact" button has got to go. It's totally unreadable and completely obvious that you're forcing the content to fit the design. Change it to "talk" or something.

good work - I think i prefer the second of these two - both are a massive improvement on your old site

don't care for your navigation or the stripes - both are a bit naff... -

wish I had time to make my portfolio, let alone release a new version every few months.

Regarding the website:
- You could do with a logo, or at least use an image replacement technique to smooth the font you have.
- Random daily background, perhaps you should just do it just random so I don't have to come back tomorrow to see the next one.
- Folio? Sounds well naff, Portfolio will sound and look better (and be better for search engines surely)
- Nav seems a bit rushed as the font is squashed on some, and the pink square rollover is a bit boring?

Don't take it to heart, just not a fan really. Oh and it doesn't validate.

Nice clean design...quite a few sites use a simillar looking wallpaper as you do for the header though. You have one minor problem in that if I increase the browser text size your header and navigation screws up, just got to remember quite a few people have the browser size increased from the normal setting.

Oh and the rollovers are weird. But overall looks good just a few things I would change.
